The Town of Bowling Green announces the long-awaited return of the Jamboree Band to the Courthouse Lawn on Monday, July 26, 2010. The free concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Local restaurants will be on-site, and businesses will offer extended hours.

You do not want to miss this very special concert!

The Jamboree Band has performed at many ceremonies for visiting dignitaries such as the King of Sweden, Nancy Reagan, President George H. W. Bush, President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush. The band has performed on national television and National Public Radio.

The Band usually performs concerts for the general public as a public relations arm of the Jamboree and B.S.A. in the local communities surrounding Fort A.P. Hill and on occasion has made trips to Washington D.C. to perform on the steps of the Senate and in front of the Lincoln Memorial. The Band has also performed for the gigantic arena shows held at the Jamboree on the same bill with: The Oakridge Boys, The Beach Boys, Louise Mandrell, Lee Greenwood, The U.S. Marine Corps Band, The U.S. Army Field Band, The U.S. Navy Band, The U.S. Naval Academy Band, and others.

The Band has traditionally been comprised of Scouts from all over the U.S and has included some from other countries. The age of the band members ranges up to 25 years old and includes some college students (many are aspiring band directors themselves) and many dedicated and sincere band members from large and small high schools. This eclectic bunch of young men always seems to hit it off right away as they all have at least two things in common, band and Scouting. What a powerful combination! Serving the Jamboree in this capacity is very rewarding and fun!

The Jamboree Band is directed by Mr. Bill Nelson, who has served in that capacity since 1977. Nelson, a retired high school band director, lives in Lubbock, Texas. “I am looking forward to renewing our tradition of playing for the fine, very hospitable people in Bowling Green and Caroline County,” he said.
